Frequently Asked Questions
What is an IBCLC?
An IBCLC is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. IBCLC's are health care professionals that specialize in the clinical management of breastfeeding. IBCLCs are certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners. They have extensive education in human lactation, clinical requirements as well as passing a rigorous board certification exam. They must recertify every 10 years. For more information about IBCLCs and their role see the International Lactation Consutlant Association.
Is that the same as a lactation consultant?
All those letters can be confusing! What is the difference between them? IBCLCs are board certified lactation consultants, which is the highest certification available for breastfeeding. This is a detailed list of the different types of breastfeeding support that are available to parents.
Do you bill insurance?
I am contracted with The Lactation Network which works to provide parents with unlimited lactation support from an IBCLC at no out of pocket cost to you. To confirm coverage visit this page to verify benefits. Please note that not all insurance plans are accepted and coverage is not guaranteed. I am also independently in network with Aetna and Cigna.
What form of payment do you accept?
I accept check, card, HSA/FSA and PayPal. Payment is due prior to or at time of service. If finances are a barrier to receiving lactation services, please reach out to me. Payment plans can be arranged.
What is your service area?
Most of the clients I serve do not incur a travel fee. However, there are instances when a travel fee is necessary considering the time and distance required for me to travel. The fee typically falls within the range of $30 to $50 and is not eligible for insurance reimbursement. Contact me for more information.
Who do you work with?
Village Lactation believes that ALL families should have access to lactation support for breastfeeding or chestfeeding. Village Lactation operates in a manner that does not discriminate against people on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, sexual orientation (including gender identity and expression), marital status, disability, veteran status, or any other basis. My goal is to provide compassionate and affirming care to all families.
How do I schedule my appointment?
You can book now or contact me to schedule a visit.
What is your cancellation policy?
Village Lactation operates with one dedicated Lactation Consultant. When you book a visit, your specified time slot is reserved exclusively for you. As appointments are in high demand and availability each week is limited,
missed appointments—including late cancellations, no-shows, and last-minute reschedules—impact our ability to serve other families and sustain our practice.
To ensure fairness and availability for all clients, please review our policy:
Can I buy a gift certificate for a friend/family member?
Absolutely! A prenatal visit to prepare or a visit once baby is born is an amazing gift for a new parent. Please contact me to purchase.
Have a question that's not answered here?
Contact me now! I am happy to answer general questions regarding my services and scheduling appointments. Please understand that due to liability reasons and IBCLCE Code of Professional Conduct I am unable to answer clinical questions over the phone or email without first doing a consultation, taking a thorough health history, and obtaining a signed consent to care from you.
